Laptops in Latin America and the Caribbean

This week I read about laptops in Latin America and the Caribbean. (Most of it was in English.) Digital literacy is on the move and spreading around the globe. It offers reflections from schools who have used one to one computing; there is a range in views, the good and the bad. One of its links addresses mobile learning and all of the opportunities for students with technology. It opens a world of new opportunities for students.

Stacy,
There are many factors that make up this concept of 1:1 computing, especially funding and professional development. Mobile learning is great. We used to have laptop classes in my school. My husband taught a fifth grade laptop class one year. He is very computer savvy and was perfect for the job. the kids loved using the computers and he was able to get a lot out of them. Once the curriculum changed there was no time to have that kind of freedom and we dropped the program.
It is important to keep these options open in schools so that if there is someone who is comfortable with teaching all day in that mode it is doable. Otherwise too much money will be spent for no nothing.
