Social Bookmarking

This week's class discussion about social bookmarking is quite interesting. I've been looking forward to learning about it. I was so excited about registering at del.icio.us, until I had to give personal information. These days, we have reason to hesitate, unfortunately. I've read postings by classmates who share my opinion.

Here I thought I'd be able to bookmark my webct address and my blog... but no. These two accounts that I wanted to list were not recognized by them. I gave out my personal information for a blank page. Maybe I did something wrong and will have to troubleshoot. I'll have to investigate further when time allows.

Hi Stacy,

I too do not like giving out my personal information. I prefer to keep my bookmarks of my favorite websites on my Portaportal site, http://guest.portaportal.com/108pd

I saw that some people had concerns about giving to much personal information on our blogs for some reason that didn't bother me as much. I have to think about the pros and cons before joining some of these Social Bookmarking sites.

Yes, social booking may require a user to give up personal information, just like any other site you may log on to. I use so many different online tools and have been phished twice, even though I am very careful.

Thats the thing with these blogs ! They always ask for your personal info and I am getting tired of that now. With so many different passwords my head is getting all mixed up now.

If only we could get on to Library Thing because it sounds so good.As Mr. Spauldings says, the stuff that you own is a very powerful expression of yourself. In other words, show me your books and I will tell you who you are! I love the idea of connecting with other book lovers and be able to discuss issues about the book.Sometimes I wonder if people who love to read so much aren't a little weird.

Robin, it's a scary time to give out too much information, as you well know. My mom recently had her credit card number stolen. The credit card company told her that airline tickets (to Puerto Rico) had been purchased with her number. Mom cancelled the flight, but no one could offer her any name of the person who made that purchase.

As for Social Bookmarking, the information belongs the property of the website.

Margaret, I'm sorry to learn that you had problems online. Do you have any advice about how to be extra careful online?

Gloria, that's a great quote. The books we love do tell a lot about us, certainly. As far as reading too much, there are reasons that people do the things that they do.
