Telephony

This week's class discussion was about Telephony, also known as Voice over Internet Protocol or IP. It took a long time for me to give in and subscribe to cable as my phone provider. I'm afraid to lose power and have no phone. I try to remember to keep my cell charged just in case. I was wondering if others have kept their land lines or switched to IP.

Hi Stacy , What a wonderful time we had this week. It was really interesting .Funny how we didn't know the technical names for all these things that we use every day. The reminder of a power outage is so scary and we really have to keep our cell phones handy.
Most schools however seem to be making use of Telephony. Good idea.

HI Stacy,

It took me quite some time to switch my land line over to my cable line. At my old house I use to have many problems with the cable line. I had to place lots of calls to cablevision until one tech person realized it was the outside box from Verizon that needed to be repaired. After that my phone was fine. We have been in our new house since August and the phone works great. Like you mentioned I do keep my cell phone charged just in case.

Gloria, you're so right about the tech names. Earlier today, My husband and I were in the car and used our EZ-Pass. I was so excited. I kept telling him that we were using something from this week's class discussion, called RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, low frequency, I believe.

Hi Robin, congratulations on your new home. Isn't it wild how much we rely on our phones and cable? When something's not working, oftentimes it can be fixed in a minute... after all the time it takes to find the right person who knows what to do!
